A plane crash investigation has been opened by the Draguignan prosecutor’s office following a light aircraft incident yesterday, Friday 29 May 2026. The Rallye-type airplane crashed into the waters of the Gulf of Saint-Tropez, about three nautical miles off the Les Issambres coast, according to France 3 Côte d’Azur.
The plane wreckage has been located, at a depth of around 400 metres. The pilot’s body was recovered yesterday. Authorities believe he was alone in the plane, which had taken off from Cuers Airport.
Var-Matin reports that the plane was found between Sainte-Maxime and Saint-Raphaël on the French Riviera.
The search operation was officially suspended this morning at 10am (Saturday 30 May 2026); and an investigation officially launched into the cause of the tragedy.
