The Principality of Monaco is the second smallest independent state in the world, after the Vatican. But despite its diminutive size Monaco, situated halfway between Nice and Italy, punches well above its weight. A cross between the iconic series The Bold and the Beautiful and Who Wants to be a Millionaire, Monaco has been attracting international travellers and jet-setters for decades. For me personally, Monaco’s enduring appeal lies in its winning combination of luxury, history, and sun-kissed scenery.
1Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters
Held every year in April, this tennis tournament attracts many top tennis players keen to practice their skills on clay, before heading to Paris for Roland Garros in June. And it is difficult to imagine a more stunning setting than the Monte Carlo Country Club. Tennis aficionados and celebrities mingle in the private boxes facing the sea, with lunch being served in the courtside restaurant. The intimate atmosphere and the proximity to the players make it my favourite European tournament. This year (2025), it will take place from 5-13 April.

Who would have thought that the narrow, winding streets of Monaco could play host to the most prestigious annual event in motorsports—the Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix? The first F1 race actually dates back to 1929 when wealthy cigarette manufacturer Antony Noghes decided to organise a race with his pals from the Automobile Club de Monaco. The exhilarating race through the cityscape now attracts racing enthusiasts and celebrities alike. Prime VIP viewing spots are located on the yachts moored in the harbour or on the Hotel de Paris terrace. And for those who have never attended a car race, do yourself a favour: add this one to your calendar, you won’t regret it. Dates: 22-25 May 2025.

3Luxury Shopping
A word of advice, when you come to Monaco, please leave your shorts and flip-flops at home (unless you’re going to the beach). The Principality exudes a feeling of luxury and you will want to blend in with the elegant set. For those who like to shop or simply admire beautiful things, head to Avenue des Beaux-Arts and Carré d’Or. This is where you will find high-end boutiques and designer labels such as Valentino, Balenciaga and Chanel.

4Cultural Events and Museums
Still Monaco is not just about glitz and glamour, as it also offers diverse cultural events throughout the year. The annual Monaco Yacht Show (24-27 September 2025) and the Monte-Carlo Jazz Festival attract visitors from around the world.
The Oceanographic Museum of Monaco, perched high on the cliffs, is home to one of he oldest aquariums in the world. You will be able to admire sharks, tropical fish and sea turtles.

5Stunning Architecture and Belle Epoque Palaces
When you visit, make sure you leave enough time to stroll past the eye-catching architecture doted around the municipality. From the Prince’s Palace perched atop the Rock of Monaco to the Saint Nicholas Cathedral, the buildings showcase Monaco’s long history. And don’t forget the impressive Casino de Monte Carlo, a Belle Epoque masterpiece. Finally, at the end of the day, pop in to the iconic Hôtel de Paris‘ American Bar and order their signature cocktail, made with Orange Juice, Ameretto and Champagne.
