The Exotic Garden of Monaco has been officially reopened this week, after six years of renovations. It will open its doors to the public from Monday 30 March, 2026.
Prince Albert II, his wife Princess Charlene, and his sister, the Princess of Hanover (Princess Caroline), visited the iconic landmark on Wednesday 25 March 2026, where the Prince unveiled a plaque marking the official reopening.
Wandering through the garden on a glorious day of sunshine, the royals were accompanied by Ms Diane Ortolani, Director of the Exotic Garden, as well as the Mayor of Monaco, the Minister of State, and the Archbishop of Monaco.

New features at The Exotic Garden of Monaco include:
- new panoramic walkways,
- a children’s playground,
- a dedicated birthday party area, and a
- new reception area and a bar with a 40 m² terrace.
Apart from enhancing the safety of pathways, and improving the visitor experience, the six-year renovation project has preserved the “authenticity and richness of this exceptional natural heritage”, the Palace said in a post on social media.
Surprise from South Africa
At the end of their visit, Prince Albert and Princess Charlene were presented with the gift of an Aloe caesia, a succulent plant native to South Africa. It’s a particularly meaningful gift for Zimbabwe-born Princess Charlene. At the age of 12 she moved with her family to South Africa, and later represented the country as an Olympic swimmer.
Fashion followers and fans praised the princess’s elegant look – with an Elie Saab outfit (featuring an elephant-buckle jacket) paired with her favourite Fendi (Baguette) sunglasses which she’s previously worn at other events, and a Louis Vuitton handbag.

The spectacular Exotic Garden, which features many succulents, large and small, was first opened in 1933 under Prince Louis II. With its cliffside location, it offers breathtaking views of Monaco and beyond.

A quote by HSH Prince Albert II, on display in the Garden says: “Cacti are a metaphor for the history of Monaco and for the challenge that climate change represents for humanity: learning to thrive by adapting to the environment.”

On Sunday, 29 March, Monegasques and residents of Monaco, are invited to visit the Exotic Garden for free before it is opened to the public on Monday 30 March 2026.
