The Peace and Sport Award for Personality of the Year was yesterday awarded in Monaco to Tony Estanguet, Chairman of the Organising Committee of this year’s stupendous Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games.
“This trophy comes to salute his exemplary commitment to an inclusive, sustainable sport and carrier of positive social transformations,” the Monaco Palace said in a social media post today.
Estanguet is a three-time Olympic champion (in slalom canoe racing) for France, who led Paris’s successful bid for the 2024 Summer Olympics. He received the trophy from Prince Albert II (who recently returned from an Asia-Pacific trip which included visiting the largest coral in the world).
The Peace and Sport Awards celebrate the role of sport as a “vector of peace” around the world. “Since 2008, the Peace and Sport Awards have illustrated best practices working towards peace, dialogue and social stability through sport,” said the Palace.
The event was hosted at the Oceanographic Museum, following a two-day conference attended by some of the world’s leading voices in peace-through-sport.

- Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (Coalitions for Peace through Sport),
- Equador football club Independiente del Valle (Peace Education through Sport)
- Humanitarian organisation for refugees in Greece, Lighthouse Relief (Empowerment through Sport)
- Winds of Change (Diplomatic Action)
- Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s Sporting Authorities (Game Changers for Peace).
