What sets Mougins School Apart: Focus on THRIVE After School programme

At Mougins British International School, education is not just about exams and grades — it’s about nurturing the whole child. That’s why every student takes part in THRIVE, a unique programme offering over 60 activities designed to open minds, build skills, and spark passions.

The THRIVE programme is designed to nurture confident, well-rounded students through a holistic approach that emphasises both personal growth and academic success. Divided into four pillars THRIVE offers students a diverse range of activities to explore their interests:

  • The Self (physical and mental well-being),
  • The Thinker (academic and critical thinking),
  • The Creative (artistic expression and performance)
  • The Community (social engagement and responsibility)

With mixed-age classes that promote collaboration and mentorship, students not only strengthen their skills but also build strong community bonds. This innovative programme ensures every child thrives both inside and outside the classroom, preparing them for a successful and fulfilling future.

THRIVE is designed to encourage students to discover and develop interests beyond the traditional curriculum,” explains James Wellings, Head of School. “By trying new things and experiencing worthwhile challenges, students grow as learners and as people.”

New this year, students can also benefit from THRIVE French Immersion/ Homework, supporting language acquisition and academic progress in French.

We are also proud to introduce the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, a prestigious international programme that fosters independence, perseverance, teamwork, and outdoor adventures.

Golf at Cannes Mougins Country Club

For Stann, a Year 11 student, Thursdays mean golf — and he couldn’t be more enthusiastic.

“Every Thursday afternoon, we head to the Cannes Mougins Country Club, where we have the chance to learn and perfect our golfing skills in one of the most stunning locations imaginable,” he says.

With the guidance of professional instructors, students learn everything from long drives to precision putting. The sessions are both challenging and fun, often featuring light-hearted mini-competitions. “One of the highlights is playing on the professional course at the end of term — it’s amazing to see how far we’ve come,” Stann adds.

From Garden to Table: Sienna’s Love for Nature

For Sienna, a Year 6 student, the community garden is more than just a school project — it’s a passion.

“Gardening is a great way to express my love for nature, but also to stay healthy,” she explains. “We even get the chance to bring some of the produce home, which means I can cook with vegetables I’ve grown myself. I once brought back aubergines and chillies — it was such a rewarding feeling.”

Sometimes, when the harvest is abundant, the school also cooks meals directly from the garden for the students.

“It’s really nice to pick fruits and vegetables, and then see them turned into meals we can all share,” Sienna adds.

Coaching the Next Generation: Jack & Terence on Football

In Year 13, Jack and Terence have taken their passion for football beyond playing — they coach younger students in Years 5 and 6 during THRIVE.

Terence recalls: “We saw them playing football at breaktime, and we thought we could help since we’ve played since we were young. They were tackling each other all the time and not really passing, so we wanted to bring some leadership and teamwork into the game.”

Jack adds: “It’s just nice to add a bit of structure, watch them grow as players and teammates as well. You can definitely see the progress — not just in their football skills but also in how they work together. For us, it’s also been a fun experience to coach and share what we know.”

Building and Inventing with LEGO Spike: Ethan’s Creativity in Action

“I love LEGO Spike because it allows me to build and programme robots,” he says. “It’s not just about putting bricks together — you can actually make your creations move. It makes learning really exciting.”

At Mougins School, education is also about preparing students to flourish in every aspect of their lives. Through THRIVE, our unique After School Programme, children discover new passions, develop resilience, and cultivate skills that will stay with them for a lifetime. Whether it’s learning teamwork on the football field, exploring creativity through art and technology, or building confidence as leaders and mentors, our students grow into curious, capable, and compassionate young people ready to embrace the future.
