Monaco’s royal family launched the end-of-year festivities by turning on the Christmas lights on Saturday (30 November 2024). Prince Albert II and his wife Princess Charlene were joined by their nine-year-old twins, Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella for a magical evening in Monte Carlo. (The twins will be turning 10 soon, on 10 December.)

After illuminating the city, palace and barracks; the family then visited the Casino Square which has been transformed with a fantastically large Christmas tree (18-metres high!) and five giant snow globes which include animation. The decorations have been inspired by this year’s theme: the “magical moments of Christmas”.

Another highlight for children (and adults) is the wonderful elves show displayed on the exterior wall of the Casino on Friday and Saturday evenings (on the hour from 6pm to 10pm) until 21 December when it’ll become a daily occurrence until the lights are turned off on 5 January.

Stéphane Valeri, CEO and Chairman of Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer was also in attendance. The Casino posted photos of the event on social media, saying: “It was a truly magical night in the Place du Casino, under Christmas lights and decorations, making Monaco a beautiful winter wonderland.”
