If you love French style but are looking for something a bit more edgy, then Zadig & Voltaire in Cannes is for you.
What’s in a Name?
The name of the fashion brand is a nod to one of the characters of iconic French writer Voltaire. His short book Zadig or the Book of Fate first published in 1747, tells the story of Zadig, a philosopher in ancient Babylonia. He was a proponent of the necessity, amid a world of uncertainty, to be yourself and to always remain positive.
And anyone already familiar with Zadig & Voltaire will definitely recognize that free spirit and individuality in the brand.
Who’s behind the Brand?
After studying art and working in New-York, Thierry Gillier launched Zadig & Voltaire almost 30 years ago, encouraged by his wife Amélie. Fashion ran in the family as his great-uncle was none other than Andre Gillier, the co-founder of legendary French brand Lacoste. At first, Zadig & Voltaire specialized in women’s fashion, with a quirky and cavalier edge. Before adding in 2004 a men’s and children’s collection as well as accessories.
Luxury Rock’n’roll
Among its iconic recognizable styles, an oversized cashmere sweater with a skull design, skinny leather jeans matched with lace-up boots and its boho dresses. Zadig & Voltaire aims to mix and match the masculine and feminine fashion items. And also show how you can combine formal and casual clothing, to obtain a unique look.
