Cannes has launched its fifteenth edition of Pages à la Plage: A Library on the Beach. It’s a wonderful invitation for beach-goers to help themselves to a good book (for free), and then lie back under the Mediterranean sun, and read and relax.
For expats living on the French Riviera, or tourists visiting the Côte d’Azur, the good news is that there are many books available in foreign languages, including English, German, Italian, Spanish, Russian, Ukrainian, and Korean!
“What if happiness this summer was simply the sound of the waves, warm sand… and a good book? In accordance with its commitment to promoting reading from an early age, Cannes offers residents and visitors a wide range of books and magazines. Novels, comic books, magazines, children’s picture books… there is something for every taste and age,” says the Cannes municipality.

The free pop-up library, which is part of Cannes’ summer programme, is set up on Zamenhof Beach, one of Cannes’ beautiful public beaches on the famous Boulevard de la Croisette (near the Martinez Hotel). The facility began yesterday (1 July) and will continue until Friday 29 August 2025.
This unique reading space is open daily from 10am to 1pm and 2pm to 5.45pm, and is available for children and adults.
Borrowing books is FREE with a simple registration on-site (presentation of an ID is required). Books can be borrowed for a maximum period of 48 hours.
