Inside the Arts & Drama Programme at Mougins British School

At Mougins British International School, our British curriculum is designed to nurture not only academic excellence but also the personal growth and creativity of every child. From drama and performing arts to visual art and design, our students are given countless opportunities to explore their passions, develop their talents, and build confidence. With a wide range of classes and extracurricular experiences, the curriculum encourages children to express themselves, collaborate with others, and grow into well-rounded, confident individuals — ready to thrive both inside and outside the classroom.

Drama: Building Confidence, Creativity, and Collaboration

Drama is an essential part of the British School curriculum, and at Mougins, it goes far beyond performance. Studying drama helps students develop self-confidence, self-expression, communication, collaboration, interpersonal skills, aesthetic awareness, and imagination. These skills are not only vital for performing arts, but they also enhance academic achievement and personal development across all areas of learning.

Our performing arts programme incorporates works from diverse cultures and historical periods, giving students the opportunity to lead, collaborate, listen, communicate, take risks, persevere, and experience the joy of performance. The school hosts theatrical evenings throughout the year, allowing students to showcase their talents in front of parents and peers.

As a certified LAMDA examination centre (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art), Mougins students can take part in UK-recognised performing arts exams. Many have achieved high grades, gaining both confidence and, for those preparing for university, UCAS points — making drama an enriching and strategic choice for their future.

A shining example of our programme in action is the recent musical production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Under the expert guidance of Ms. Lecoy (Director) and Ms. Garvey (Musical Director), students brought this beloved story to life through music, choreography, and performance. The production not only highlighted their musical and dramatic abilities but also demonstrated the confidence, teamwork, and creativity nurtured throughout our arts curriculum. Art: Fostering Creativity, Critical Thinking, and Cultural Awareness

At Mougins British International School, art is much more than an aesthetic pursuit — it is a platform for creativity, problem-solving, critical thinking, and cultural exploration. Our passionate art teachers guide students in developing both technical skills and conceptual understanding, encouraging them to express their ideas and perspectives through a wide range of mediums, from traditional painting and sculpture to contemporary digital and street art.

Students explore themes, artists, designers, and craft makers from different periods and cultures, building a holistic understanding of art in historical and cultural contexts. From observational drawing to three-dimensional creations, each project enhances hand-eye coordination, creativity, and self-confidence. At IGCSE and A-Level, students can study Art & Design (Edexcel Fine Art and Art, Craft, and Design). Their creative works and performances are proudly showcased throughout the school, celebrating achievement and inspiring younger students to explore their own artistic passions.

A highlight of the school year was the A-Level Art trip to Amsterdam, where students experienced the city’s rich art scene first-hand — from classical masterpieces at the Rijksmuseum to contemporary street art at STRAAT. This immersive experience nurtured inspiration, personal growth, and camaraderie, reinforcing the school’s commitment to artistic excellence.
