cinema de la plage cannes

For Cannes locals and cinephiles from around the globe, the Cinéma de la Plage (beach cinema) is an unmissable rendezvous—a chance to soak in the glamour of the Cannes Film Festival without the red carpet rush or pricey tickets. In fact it’s free.

Just a stone’s throw from the iconic Palais des Festivals, and opposite the Majestic Hotel, Macé Beach transforms into an open-air cinema paradise each evening during the Festival from 13 to 24 May (weather permitting). Settle into a deckchair under the Riviera sky and enjoy a curated selection of films—entirely free of charge, with the Mediterranean as your backdrop.

Do get there early though as there can be queues, and make sure to have a jumper or jacket with you as it can get cooler on the beach sand as night falls.

The event begins at 9.30pm each evening and includes a ‘warm up’ act every night from rock to pop and electro, disco and more. Plus the cast and crew sometimes make an appearance on stage too.

BARDOT

Alain Berliner – 1h30, France/Belgium

Brigitte Bardot is French cinema’s first icon to achieve worldwide fame. As a muse, an adored star and a committed activist at the same time, she embodies a free woman but is sometimes misunderstood. Too loved or not loved enough, she goes through the spotlight before withdrawing to La Madrague, fleeing from the eyes of the public and the scandals. Today, she reflects on her life full of contrasts: her quick ascent, her status as an icon, her sometimes too radical statements in her fight for animal rights… As a pioneer in her commitments, she revolutionized the image of women and anticipated ecological battles which resonate even more today.
Screening in the presence of Alain Berliner and the team of the film.
