The opening of the 78th Festival de Cannes at the Palais des Festivals on the French Riviera is being streamed live across France in 382 cinemas, as well as on YouTube (watch below).
The Festival said that since it celebrates the silver screen, it makes sense to screen it across the country so that thousands of film loves can be part of the occasion, reaffirming the value of cinemas and power of the collective experience.
All participating cinemas are broadcasting the ceremony live, presented by French actor Laurent Lafitte in the presence of “exceptional guest of honor”, American actor Robert de Niro. The red carpet and opening ceremony will be followed by the opening film, Partir un jour (Leave One Day), Amélie Bonnin’s feature directorial debut.
