Founded in 2012, SOS Cancer du Sein (which means Breast Cancer in English), is a non-profit organisation dedicated to supporting women affected by breast and gynaecological cancers, as well as their families. Created and run by women who have experienced breast cancer themselves, the association offers understanding, practical support and a listening service to those navigating the challenges of diagnosis, treatment and recovery.
Since its creation, the organisation has supported 1,220 women, offering a range of services and activities designed to improve quality of life throughout treatment and remission.
Supporting Women and Their Loved Ones
At the heart of the association’s work is the belief that no woman should have to face cancer alone. Their primary mission is to support women and their loved ones throughout treatment and recovery. They do this by offering:
- A compassionate listening service: You can call 07 82 97 02 06 for urgent support and guidance for patients and their families.
- Meetings and peer support: Opportunities are provided for women undergoing treatment to meet, connect and share their experiences.
- Hospital visits and reflexology treatments: The charity’s volunteers and reflexologists visit women in medical facilities, offering foot reflexology treatments following surgery and during chemotherapy. Providing much needed moments of relaxation and comfort.
Promoting Physical and Emotional Wellbeing
SOS Cancer du Sein believes that maintaining physical and emotional wellbeing can help women better cope with the effects of treatment and can support their recovery.
The association organises 22 activities each week across the South of France and Corsica, complementing the supportive care available through medical institutions. Sessions are led by qualified professionals and take place indoors and outdoors, either in person or online.
Activities range from yoga, Pilates, Qi Gong, Nordic walking and aquagym to dance, golf, fencing and archery. Women can also take part in kayaking and canoeing outings, monthly hikes and winter excursions.
Additional wellbeing services include foot reflexology, beauty treatments, sophrology, art therapy, therapeutic singing, creative workshops and support groups.
The association also organises special wellness weekends. Women can choose from a wide programme of activities:
- Retreats on the Lérins Islands featuring yoga, walking and water-based activities
- Mountain escapes combining relaxation and snowshoeing
- Sailing trips
- And healthy cooking workshops
All activities are open to women undergoing treatment for breast or gynaecological cancer, as well as those in remission.
Raising Awareness and Encouraging Prevention
Another key mission is to raise public awareness of cancer screening, prevention and the realities of living with the disease. Throughout the year, SOS Cancer du Sein organises events across the region designed to encourage early detection and share information with the wider community.
Every year, these events include:
- Pink Regattas: This year (2026) the Pink Regatta in Antibes takes place on 17 October.
- Pink Jogging: A charity run and walk in Nice in early October (it just took place on 4 October 2026).
- Pink Yoga: Large-scale introductory yoga sessions in Nice and Marseille.
- Awareness campaigns and wellbeing events in shopping centres across the region.
- Conferences on cancer prevention, screening and support.
These initiatives bring people together around an important cause, helping to facilitate conversations about cancer and encouraging women to take an active role in their health.
