One of Cap d’Antibes’ most famous beaches, Plage des Ondes, is open again! The beach, which has become an Instagram star, was closed to the public yesterday evening.
Fortunately, the closure was short-lived. At midday today, Friday 14 August 2026, the town hall announced the swimming ban had been lifted and the beach is open once more.
The Antibes Juan-les-Pins mayor’s office said: “Following water analysis at Plage des Ondes, the results meet health standards. The swimming ban has now been lifted. Thank you for your understanding.”
Situated on the luxurious Cap d’Antibes coast, where it offers views of breathtaking sunsets and glimpses of Villa Aujourd’hui, the former home of Hollywood legend Jack Warner, the beach is renowned for being a photographer’s haven – not only because of the gorgeous little stone castle-like tower, but also because of its pristine waters.
But this week, the beauty spot was cordoned off with police blocking entrance to it’s sandy shores.
According to France 3 Côte d’Azur, the municipality had identified an oil slick near the beach. The town hall informed France 3 that “it was probably a boat with a leak that spilled fuel into the sea”.
Fortunately it’s been given the all-clear and the beach is open once more – for locals, holidaymakers and influencers!
