LUMINISCENCE, an immersive sound and light show that’s been dazzling audiences at the legendary Basilica in Nice, has been extended thanks to popular demand. With over 50,000 spectators since February and sold-out shows, the unique experience – highlighting hope and heritage – was meant to end in March, but will now continue for an extra three months, until 26 June 2025. (See details at bottom of article.)
The 360° show combines history, mind-blowing video mapping and live music (including an amazing choir) to offer audiences an opportunity to dive into the secrets of the Basilica of Our Lady of the Assumption (Notre-Dame de l’Assomption Basilica) and rediscover this iconic French Riviera landmark in a totally new way.

Nice underwent many transformations before becoming part of France in the late 19th century. The Basilica stands at the heart of this tumultuous history as a true symbol of Nice’s identity, having been built in the 1860s to mark the city’s union with France.
According to the LUMINISCENCE organisers, the Nice Basilica was inspired by Notre-Dame de Paris (and Saint-Serge Abbey in Angers) “and embodies the living heritage of this new era. Under its sacred arches, dive into its legend and let yourself be carried away on a journey through time, where generations unite in a vibrant tribute to Nice heritage and culture.”
Locals and tourists walk past this beautiful neo-gothic building every day (where tragically an attack took place in October 2020). If you wander down Avenue Jean Médecin, you will instantly recognise it with its two exquisite 31-metre high towers. Designed by architect Charles Lenormand, the Basilica includes three soaring naves.

The church is dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, and was consecrated 100 years ago this month (12 March 1925). It was designated as a historic monument in 1975.
Luminiscence was created a couple of years ago by Lotchi, and is dedicated to showcasing and preserving iconic world heritage sites through these moving immersive experiences that blend digital technology with live performances.

So far over 300,000 spectators across France have enjoyed the spectacle, and Luminiscence has donated over €400,000 to monuments which have hosted the show.
Lotchi says: “By highlighting the most iconic cathedrals and basilicas, we celebrate our shared heritage through unique visual and auditory shows… creating a truly one-of-a-kind multi-sensory experience.”

Audience members have left glowing reviews including this one from Lydia G. who said: “A beautiful way to discover the history of the basilica. The show was splendid and the acoustics incredible.”
