One of the most common questions I receive as a relocation expert is: \u201cIf I obtain a Carte de S\u00e9jour, do I automatically become a French tax resident?<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n

What It Is (and Isn\u2019t)<\/h3>\n

The Carte de S\u00e9jour<\/strong> is your residency permit<\/strong> in France. It\u2019s proof that you are legally residing here beyond 90 days, and there are different types depending on your situation \u2014 whether you’re retired, working, self-employed, or here as a family member.<\/p>\n

But here\u2019s the important bit: Obtaining a Carte de S\u00e9jour does not automatically make you a tax resident in France.<\/strong><\/p>\n
