Being well-prepared can save you stress, time&#8230; and even money. <strong>Here are my top tips for smooth and safe summer travel abroad from France:<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>1. Don\u2019t Forget Your CEAM (EHIC) Card<\/h2>\n<p>If you\u2019re travelling within the EU or EEA, the UK Global Health Insurance Card (<strong>GHIC<\/strong>) which replaced the <strong>EHIC<\/strong> after Brexit\u2014known in France as the <strong><em>Carte Europ\u00e9enne d\u2019Assurance Maladie<\/em> (CEAM)<\/strong>\u2014is a must.<\/p>\n<p>This little blue card entitles you to state-provided healthcare in another EU country under the same conditions as locals. It\u2019s free and can be requested through your <strong>Ameli.fr<\/strong> account (or your relevant <em>caisse<\/em> if you&#8217;re not under the general regime).<\/p>\n<p>You can request this online and it is valid for 2 years. If you then need treatment abroad, keep your receipts<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tip<\/strong>: Don\u2019t assume travel insurance replaces the CEAM\u2014it doesn\u2019t. And remember, each family member needs their own card, including children.<\/p>\n<h2>2. Check Your Mobile and Internet Coverage.<\/h2>\n<p>Don\u2019t get caught out! Before you switch your phone to airplane mode, take a moment to understand your mobile plan\u2019s international coverage. Using your card abroad\u2014especially in countries with different currencies\u2014can mean <strong>transaction fees, poor exchange rates<\/strong>, and even card rejection in small shops or markets.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Travel advice:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Withdraw a reasonable amount of cash before your trip.<\/li>\n<li>Use a travel-friendly card (like Revolut, N26, or Wise) that offers better exchange rates and low or no fees.<\/li>\n<li>Let your bank know you\u2019re travelling to avoid fraud alerts or card blocks. They often have special packages to avoid paying commission for each tap of the debit card!!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>4.
