The opera house promises “a fusion of visual grandeur and dramatic intensity” with an exceptional cast. \nSet against a romanticized vision of ancient Egypt\, Giuseppe Verdi’s Aida portrays the tragic clash between Aida and Amneris\, two proud princesses battling for the love of the valiant warrior Radamès. Originally commissioned to celebrate the opening of the Suez Canal\, the opera was conceived on a grand\, almost cinematic scale with elephants included! \nWhen the work first came to Monaco in 1884\, several large ensemble scenes had to be trimmed due to the limited size of the Opéra’s stage. In 2025\, this is no longer an issue for Davide Livermore and his team\, who will make full use of the expansive stage at the Grimaldi Forum.
