Emergency Numbers in the South of France

My ex-husband always says ‘Hope for the best, prepare for the worst’. With this in mind, here are the most important numbers we wish you will never have to call during your stay on the French Riviera.

112 The number to call for emergencies anywhere in Europe

15 Samu for all medical emergencies

17 To report a road accident or a disturbance of public order

18 Fire brigade, to report a fire, a drowning, get assistance for serious injuries

196 Water safety, to report people at risk of drowning or boats in trouble

3237 To find out the nearest out-of-hours/open on weekends chemist (pharmacy) – you will have to enter your postal code. Or go to any pharmacy and they will have a list on the door of the closest one that is open.

3919 provides a first port-of-call for all women victims of gender-based violence. Such as domestic violence, sexual violence, forced marriages, female genital mutilation and violence at work. Depending on their situation, women are then referred to local or national partner associations best able to provide a response or support.
The 3919 is a free and anonymous number which is open 24/7.

0972675006 For electricity power outages in the Alpes Maritimes (Antibes)

0972675083 For electricity power outages in the Var (Saint Tropez)

0800473333 Number to call if you suspect a gas leak or want to report a gas outage

If you need a doctor or any other medical professional (dentist, gynaecologist etc.) while you’re in France, one of the easiest ways to find and book an appointment near to you is to visit https://www.doctolib.fr/

Please note the above emergency numbers are useful to keep on hand, as advised by the forthcoming French Survival Manual
