There were emotional scenes on court from the winners at the Rolex Monte Carlo Masters today (Sunday 13 April) as a new champion – Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz – was crowned in the Singles tournament, and a Monegasque – Romain Arneodo – made history with a Doubles Victory!
Romain Arneodo makes history in Monaco
French-born Monegasque Romain Arneodo and French player Manuel Guinard were crowned the 2025 Doubles Champions. The emotional victory, witnessed by Prince Albert II of Monaco, was a dream come true for Romain – becoming the first Monegasque player to win the Monte-Carlo doubles title. An elated Romain, who was born in Cannes 32 years ago, said afterwards of his historical win:
“To achieve this tournament for me – tennis is enough, no? Now I won the tournament… my tennis career is – I reached my goal, my dream goal!” Watch Romain’s reaction below after winning:
Amazing Athleticism Helps Alcaraz Win MC Singles Tournament
Carlos Alcaraz won the singles match today with some incredibly agile athleticism, which you can see clearly in this video below. He beat his Italian opponent, Lorenzo Musetti 3-6, 6-1, 6-0 in front of a packed crowd on Court Rainier III, where the match began three hours earlier due to a forecast of rain.
The win is Carlos’s sixth ATP Masters 1000 title and his first in 13 months.
Musetti (23) won the first set, but struggled with an injury to his right leg in the third set. (You can watch the highlights in a video at the bottom of this page.)
Twenty-one year old Carlos said:
“It is not the way I would have wanted to win a match. Thinking about Lorenzo, he has been through a tough week, played long matches. I feel sorry for him. It is one of his best results, ending up like this is not easy. Hopefully it is nothing serious and he will be 100 per cent soon.”
Of his own performance, the Monte Carlo winner said:
“I am really happy to win Monte-Carlo for the first time. It has been a really difficult week with a lot of difficult situations. I am proud with how I dealt with everything. It has been a difficult month for me (with his second-round exit in Miami), so coming here and seeing the hard work pay off makes me happy.”
The new champion (who also won Roland Garros in Paris last year, and scooped silver the the Paris Olympics on a clay court) will now climb to second position in the ATP Rankings on Monday.
