This year’s restaurants in France who have been awarded stars by the prestigious Michelin Guide will be announced on Monday 31st March. The ceremony will take place in the heart of the city of Metz, in the Moselle region. UPDATE: FIND OUT THE NEW MICHELIN STAR RESTAURANTS ON THE FRENCH RIVIERA.

How was the Michelin Guide started?
The guide was begun in French town Clermont-Ferrand in 1889, when the Michelin brothers (Andre and Edouard) founded their internationally-famous tyre company, and decided to issue a little red guide packed with handy tips for travellers (including maps, how to change tyres and where to stop and eat) as a way of encouraging more motorists to take trips (and thereby boost their tyre sales), according to the Michelin website.
It is now an institution, rating over 40,000 establishments in over 24 territories across three continents. More than 30 million guides have been sold worldwide since its humble beginnings.
